You can pay some pretty hefty prices for an airsoft shotgun - it certainly pays to shop around. It should always be on a web shopper's list to check ebay - not only will you save money on used airsoft shotguns, but the prices on new ones can be well below what you find elsewhere, even on the net. Merchants use ebay as a way to sell excess, last year's models, etc.
Why mess around with a lesser brand, when you can pay the same low prices you pay for an inferior airsoft gun, but get the higher quality model you really want? On ebay, you'll find trusted sellers who specialize in airsoft- check their feedback ratings, experience, etc. before you buy, and you'll have virtually no risk.
About Airsoft Guns
Airsoft guns (also known as Soft Air guns by some manufacturers, such as Cybergun and Crosman) are spring, electric, or gas powered air guns that fire small spherical plastic pellets of either 6 mm or 8 mm diameter (0.24 or 0.32 inches), although spring-operated "air guns" may be disputed as air guns altogether. Inexpensive airsoft guns are often very low powered and some players use them as professional airsofters would, but instead they play in areas like a house's backyard. Some of the more expensive models may be used for playing professional Airsoft, which is similar in concept to Paintball, with the exception that airsoft is a military simulation that usually has objectives instead of constant 'deathmatches.'
Generally they are replicas (in appearance only they can not be converted to fire real bullets) of real firearms, but occasionally fictional firearms or body kits are available, such as the M41A Pulse Rifle from the Aliens films. Some very inexpensive airsoft guns are reduced scale models (such as the Boys models by some makers) or caricatures (such as the mini-electrics) of firearms. In addition, some designs are replicas of firearms that never even went into service or production, such as XM8 prototypes.
Classic Airsoft Guns
Classic airsoft guns are usually older variety airsoft guns which are gas powered. Unlike the gas pistols of today, they can run on either an internal tank using conventional airsoft gas or use an external CO2 tank much like a paintball gun. They generally cost more than the standard AEG but provide a more realistic approach to airsoft. There is usually some "recoil" provided by these guns. While these guns can become more powerful than AEG's, almost all users operate them at sub-AEG power. Instead of relying on pure FPS for range and accuracy, they employ a special hop-up called a LRB. The LRB turns the entire barrel into a hop-up system, so the pellet can travel much farther without high muzzle energy. They also have a higher rate of fire because a spring doesn't need to be pulled back each time a shot must be fired.

A shotgun (also known as a fowling piece or scattergun) is a firearm typically used to fire a number of small spherical pellets called shot.
Shotguns come in a wide variety of forms, from rimfire models with .22 inch (5.5 mm), bores up to massive punt guns with 2 inch (5 cm) bores, and in nearly every type of firearm operating mechanism. The common characteristics that make a shotgun unique center around the requirements of firing shot. These features are the features typical of a shotgun shell, namely a relatively short, wide cartridge, with straight walls, and operating at a relatively low pressure.
The shot pellets from a shotgun spread upon leaving the barrel which makes it easier to hit small targets at suitable ranges than with a rifle. The shot is usually fired from a smoothbore barrel; another configuration is the rifled slug barrel, which is used to fire a single projectile (though some slugs can also be fired from smoothbore weapons).
Since the power of the burning charge is divided among the pellets, the energy of any one ball of shot is fairly low, making shotguns useful primarily for hunting birds and other small game. However, the large number of projectiles makes the shotgun useful as a close-combat weapon or defensive weapon, where the short range ensures that many of the projectiles of shot will hit the target (see riot shotgun and combat shotgun).
